“THE ISSUE” – 3 min Easy read from Savitri

The Issue

In the first canto, we saw the Spiritual dawn in us and Savitri’s life, how the darkness shall bring the light and about the soul.

Savitri, too, wakes up with the other tribes.

Now, Savitri wakes as a soul, and the acts of the mind drive her. The mind carries Savitri to her past, present and future.

It shows the broad highways and sweet bypaths of her life; the twelve passionate months she lived.

It was like darkness which comes to us when we make a progressive step toward God. 

Sometimes life brings us the most formidable difficulties where we stand alone, helpless.

We cannot explain our sorrows to others; we end up doing something; either we surrender to fate or call the Divine.

We often choose the first option. I am surrendering to fate and being its puppet. Calling the Divine is done; I do not deny that, but usually, it is not directly contacted.

We would either go to an astrologer or the godmen or perform traditional poojas /rituals.

Now it was the time for Savitri to be in that state.  However, where did she go to solve her problem? What was her problem, and who helped/guided her?

“FORCED OUT FROM THE PROTECTING IGNORANCE

AND FLUNG BACK ON HIS NAKED PRIMAL NEED,

HE, AT LENGTH, MUST CAST FROM HIS SURFACE SOUL

AND BE THE UNGARBED ENTITY WITHIN:”- Book 1; Canto 2 (The Issue); Page 11

She is not an ordinary being; she is the Supreme manifold manifestation.

She has descended not only to save her Satyavan but also the whole of Humankind, who is safeguarded by ignorance.

She is the one who brings us the new Consciousness of immortality. 

So there is an option to eliminate the powerful play of fate. What is that? 

Calling the Divine is the way. However, how can he make us get out of the karmic pattern we all had saved and brought into this Earthly life? 

The astrologer says that it is not at all possible! All the ways are closed. 

Whom did she call?

Yes… Savitri must now bring in her soul’s force to solve the issue.

She is left alone; aware is she amid unknowing happy hearts. Time is nearing; she has to get ready to battle.

No one knew about her battle; only the godheads above and nature below were the spectators. 

She was a perfect shrine for the love to dwell in. No creature on the earth had the nobler heart as Savitri had. 

In Book 1; Canto 2 (The Issue); Page 15 “IMMORTAL RHYTHMS SWAYED IN HER TIME-BORN STEPS;

HER LOOK, HER SMILE AWOKE THE CELESTIAL SENSE LOVE IN HER WAS WIDER THAN THE UNIVERSE” 

Although she learned to bear the human loads and sufferings, her walk kept still the measure of gods. She was in a golden orbit.

Nevertheless, the joy was not completely felt; the darkness in the terrestrial made that so. 

Sri Aurobindo explains THE ISSUE on page 17,

Savitri accepted her mortal breath to wrestle with the Shadow and to confront the riddle of Man’s birth. Her Soul’s Issue was to not submit and suffer; she was born to lead, and deliver the glory of the Divine.

Her single powerful will opposed the cosmic rule, a prayer, a master act, and a king’s idea can bring in a miracle as a common rule.
