IPL 2022

The Indian Premier League tournament is currently happening in India. Post covid, IPL is the first tournament that allows the audience to view the match physically with the maximum number of audience in the stadium. The last IPL happened in the Middle East, the tournament’s champion was Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and the runner up was Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). As customary, the tournament’s first match is played by the Winners and Runners of the previous contest. This year, two additional teams increased the total team count to 10, which falls under two groups, Group A and Group B. The new teams are Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants.

First toss of IPL 2022

IPL 2022 commenced on 26th March 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium Mumbai. The match was between the current champion CSK and the runner up KKR. Both the teams had a new captain, namely Ravindra Jadeja for CSK and Shreyas Iyer for KKR. KKR won the toss and elected to bowl first.

CSK Batting – First Innings of IPL 2022

The promising opening batter of CSK, Ruturaj Gaikwad, failed to give a battling start to the CSK. As a replacement for Faf, Conway played as an opener with Gaikwad. Even Conway was unable to provide the beginning with the CSK expected. To a surprise, the fast bowler Umesh Yadav picks the openers. By the 8th over, Uthappa gets stumped by Jackson to the mystery bowler Varun Chakaravarthy, leading to Captain Jadeja entering the field. CSK got into massive trouble due to the misunderstanding for taking a run which cost them the wicket of Rayudu (regular runout customer – 15 times in IPL). Shivam Dube, the allrounder of CSK, comes to grease and returns to the pavilion quickly.

The king of CSK, MAHENDRA SINGH DHONI, enters the field with a standing ovation. At the end of 11 overs, CSK were 64/5. The complex situation to maintain the Championship status fell under the New and Ex Captians of CSK. Jadeja and Dhoni pushed the team score to 131/5 at the end of the innings, making the king get his 50 after ~29 IPL innings. Dhoni’s calmness at the crisis helped to gain a decent score to give a good fight.

KKR Batting – Second Innings of IPL 2022

Experienced Rahane and blistering youth Venkatesh Iyer open the chase for KKR. Deepak Chahar’s injury gave the new bowler Tushar Deshpande a platform to open the bowling attack against KKR. At the end of the power play, KKR had a promising start of 43/0, which made the CSK captain bring the experienced allrounder Dwayne Bravo. Nevertheless, the experience gets the wicket of Venkatesh Iyer on the second ball of the 7th over and the last ball of the 10th over, taking the wicket of Nitish Rana.

The CSK captain’s decision to come to bowl on the 11th over was tricky – he should have backed himself as a captain to bowl a little earlier. KKR’s run rate was maintained against the required run rate, though Mitchel Santner got the wicket of settled Rahane (44 runs). By the end of the 12th Over, KKR were 90/3, which led to the introduction of the promising batsman of England, Sam Billings.

The Champion Dancer Bravo picks the most number of wickets (170) by dismissing Sam Billings, which equals the record of Malinga, experience speaks DJ Bravo at the end of 4 over picks 3/20. At 18.3 overs, Shreyas Iyer, the captain of KKR, wins the match in a style with a four.

Takeaways of the IPL 2022 – CSK vs. KKR Match

The rivalry between CSK and KKR from 2021 ended with the win for the wounded runners of 2021 with a promising win by picking only three foreign players and giving more Indian players a chance. Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy against the new captain Ravindra Jadeja was awakening to the CSK.
