The heavily priced Ishan Kishan opens the innings with Rohit Sharma, the ex CSKian Shardul Thakur opens the bowling attack for the Delhi Capitals. The DC bowlers got a blast from Rohit and Ishan’s openers, which led to the star bowler of the DC, Axar Patel, to bowl the 4th over. Aggressive bowling by Khaleel led the hitman Rohit to scoop the ball to short fine leg – the catch dropped by Shardul Thakur. At the end of the powerplay, MI were 53/0. It was a promising start by MI.
Kuldeep Yadav comes to attack, chinaman left-arm spinner from KKR has been picked by DC as one of the lead spinners with Axar Patel. “That’s Out”, Rohit goes to the Pavillion for 41 runs to Kuldeep Yadav at the end of the 9th over (69/1). Anmolpreet Singh, the right-hand batsman, comes one down for MI. Anmol goes back to Pavillion by only scoring eight runs and getting caught by Lalit Yadav, bowled by Kuldeep Yadav.
The promising new left-hand batsman from Hyderabad, Namboori Thakur Tilak Varma, comes to the crease. Once again, the newcomer Tilak Varma goes to the Pavillion by scoring 22 runs in 15 balls, “probably jitters”. The mighty Kieron Pollard comes to the crease with a loud cheer. Rishabh Pant greets him with Kuldeep Yadav for his second over of the batting. This intelligent move was a success because of Tim Seifert’s stunner catch at the midwicket. Pollard goes back by just scoring three runs.
The valued player of MI, Tim David, comes to the crease. Kuldeep’s best figure since 2019 in 15 IPL matches is 3/17. Tim David gets caught by Mandeep Singh bowled by steam-engine Khaleel. At the end of 19 overs, MI were 159/5 last over bowled by Shardul Thakur cost 18 runs, leading to the final score of 177/5. Ishan Kishan proves his worth for the money by scoring 81 runs in 48 balls.
Delhi Capitals Batting
The attacking duo of DC Prithivi Shaw and Tim Seifert comes to the crease with Daniel Sams opening the bowling attack for Mumbai Indians. Great start by the pair by getting 12 runs in the first over. Boom Boom Bumrah comes to the bowling attack and couldn’t stop the batting attack of DC. The MI is pumped with fast bowlers, so the third over was given to Basil Thampi.
At the end of the third over, DC were 30/0. Rohit Sharma was clueless; he brought his Bramhaasthra, Murugan Ashwin, the leggy, to the attack. The bowling change paid off, and M. Ashwin bowled the attacking Seifert. Mandeep Singh goes back to the Pavillion with a duck in the same over, leading the fierce Rishabh Pant to the crease. At the end of 4 overs, DC were 31/2.
As said before, MI was pumped with fast bowlers; now, they brought Tymal Mills into the bowling attack, making Pant go back to the Pavillion. Lalit Yadav comes to the crease, joins Prithivi Shaw. DC picked up the pace slowly, and at the end of 9 overs, DC were 70/3, which brought Basil Thampi to the attack. The opening-attacking batsman Prithivi Shaw caught by Ishan Kishan, goes back to the Pavillion, which brings the mighty Rovman Powell from West Indies to the crease.
Still, Powell goes back to the dugout without hurting the bowlers. Basil Thampi proves his might by taking two wickets in an over like Murugan Ashwin, which made the captain so happy. This made the audience think that MI would change the running streak failing in the first match of the IPL every year. At the end of 10 overs, DC struggled by taking 77 runs for five wickets.
Rohit was mixing the bowlers by giving chances to wrap up the DC lineup. He brings Basil Thampi in the 14th over, which paid off by taking the wicket of Shardul Thakur (113/6).
In the meantime, the star player of DC, Axar Patel, joins the crease with Lalit Yadav, which proved challenging for the MI bowlers. Run started to flow from both ends; by the end of 18 overs, the steaming engines of Mumbai Indians were fuelless, which made DC get 174/6. Bumrah comes to attack on the 19th over, which made the valedictory ceremony for Mumbai Indians.
The losing streak of the Mumbai Indians on their first match IPL every year continues …
