Have you ever wondered about what this mysterious song “Humpty Dumpty” is all about? Ever thought about why they gave an Egg body with the pants and arms? This article will discuss the history, myths, and reasons why they came up with the famous rhyme “Humpty Dumpty”.

humpty dumpty

The Rhyme:

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall

Humpty Dumpty had a great fall

All the king’s horses and all the king’s men

Couldn’t put Humpty together again

Why do we think Humpty Dumpty is an egg when there is no mention of egg anywhere in the lyrics?

Can it be some form of a riddle that was answered, and now nobody thinks of the Rhyme as a riddle for which the answer is “It is an Egg”.

History:

Humpty Dumpty song first appeared in 1797. People started wondering what it could be. The piece is entirely bizarre, and there is no context to it, and sometimes it even feels so dumb. People started framing theories for this famous song, “Humpty Dumpty”.

King Richard Theory:

king richard iii

People thought the Humpty Dumpty was King Richard the Third, who was the king of England. Even Shakespeare has mentioned him as a “poisonous bunch-backed toad.” That’s how Richard III was even known, thanks to Shakespeare. Most of the time, Richard was usually on and off the office, and his tenure was only a couple of years, nearly 2.1 years. Richard the Third was the last English king to have died, “The Battle of Bosworth“. It is said that King Richard had a horse named “Wall”, and he fell off the horse, and the legend says, “he sat on the

Wall and fell off the Wall”. All the king’s horses and all the kingsmen couldn’t put him back together. This is one of the aptest theories that could explain the famous story, which I think is correct. King Richard is the connection and account behind the Rhyme.

Mother Goose Theory:

Again the Humpty Dumpty appears in 1803 in the book called “Mother Goose’s Melody”. In that, the last line of the Rhyme was “Couldn’t put Humpty up again.” British Magazine said the Humpty was actually “Cardinal Wolsey“, and people believed. Cardinal Wolsey was the guy who couldn’t get a divorce from Pope for the “King Henry the VIII.” Cardinal Wolsey couldn’t help the king and was not considered a great advisor. This story is too political, and I hope this couldn’t be the correct theory for the Rhyme “Humpty Dumpty.”
