Your phone shows full signal bars, but web pages will not load and WhatsApp keeps spinning. Or the phone says “No service” in a place where it used to work. These problems are common on Jio, Airtel and Vi, and most of them can be fixed in a few minutes without calling customer care.
Step 1: Check the basics
- Make sure mobile data is turned on, and that Wi-Fi is off or connected to a working network.
- Check that your plan is active and you have not used up your data.
- Turn airplane mode on for 30 seconds, then turn it off.
Step 2: Restart the phone
Restart clears temporary network faults. It is the fix that works most often, so try it before anything else.
Step 3: Set the network mode correctly
Go to mobile network settings and choose the network mode. For 4G and 5G phones, select 5G/4G/3G/2G (auto) or LTE/5G. If the phone is stuck on 2G or 3G, change it manually to 4G.
Step 4: Check the APN settings
The APN (Access Point Name) tells the phone how to connect to the internet. Wrong settings can block data while calls still work. Check the APN for your operator on their official website and reset to default if the settings look changed.
Step 5: Reset network settings
This removes saved Wi-Fi passwords and Bluetooth pairings, so write them down first. It often fixes data and signal problems that persist after a restart. On Android and iPhone, you will find the option under the general or system settings.
Step 6: Check your SIM
Turn the phone off, remove the SIM, clean the gold contacts with a dry cloth, and reinsert it. If the phone still shows no service on another phone, the SIM may need replacing at your operator store.
When to contact your operator
If there is no signal in an area where others have it, or the problem continues across several phones, there may be an outage. Check your operator’s app or website for outage notices before you spend time on your phone.
Frequently asked questions
Why do calls work but data does not?
Calls and data use different settings. A wrong APN, a network mode issue or a data limit can block data while calls still work.
Will resetting network settings delete my photos?
No. It removes saved Wi-Fi networks and Bluetooth pairings, but your photos, apps and messages stay.
